Roddick, at US Open, announces will retire after tournament

Andy Roddick announces his retirement from tennis on Thursday

On the day after Kim Clijsters lost in the U.S. Open in her last professional singles tennis match as she heads into retirement, American Andy Roddick announced Thursday on his 30th birthday that he’ll be retiring after his final match at the tournament. Roddick, whose only Grand Slam title was a U.S. Open championship in 2003, the last time an American man won a Grand Slam singles event, said in a news conference, “I just feel like it’s time.”
