School supporters return to Pine Street

A handful of Tamassee-Salem supporters returned last night to an Oconee County Council meeting, and two of them spoke during council’s public comment session.  Although school district policy is established across Pine Street by another body politic, those who oppose closing their community’s middle and high school are hopeful the council will exert pressure on the county trustees.  But the council accepted the remarks last night by Lynn Martin and Scott Rogers without comment.  Martin, who has filed a court challenge to the school board’s October 26 vote, said she continues to study public school spending in Oconee County.  Martin said she’d like to see every Oconeean begin to hold accountable the county council for what it spends on county government and the school board for what it spends on education.
