School year opens Thursday

The public school year commences in Oconee County on Thursday morning, and district administration pronounces the schools ready for a new year of education.  At last night’s meeting of the county trustees, Superintendent Dr. Michael Thorsland said the teachers appear enthusiastic about welcoming back the students.  District wide enrollment is anticipated to approximate 10,500.  A couple of schools have been scenes of construction this summer, and there has been concern that the roads and streets leading into two schools might not be ready for drop-off and pickup traffic.  But district officials last night were encouraged to know that the contractor paving N. Townville Street in front of Seneca’s Northside Elementary worked over the weekend.
