Seneca ready to make the deal!

The framework is in place for Seneca to acquire a large building and property as part of the push to bring new life to the downtown.  At last night’s meeting, the city council gave Mayor Dan Alexander the authority to sign the papers for a new corporation whose first action is to be the purchase of the former Hometown Food Store which earlier had served as a downtown Winn-Dixie Store.  In a related action, the council agreed to tap its electric peak shaving revenues for $200 thousand to consummate the deal.  As yet, no specific purpose has been outlined for the building and property, though City Administrator Greg Dietterick sees possibilities to bring new business to the downtown.
