Seven trees in the ground

Seven maple trees were placed in the ground yesterday on Walhalla’s Main Street, and more are to follow.  Dan Pollock, president of Partners for Progress, congratulated Richard Harper and the rest of the Partners’ tree committee.  And Harper, as he watched the planting of one tree, was pleased.  “They should grow nice and tall.  We’re trying to get the canopy effect, Harper said.  So far, according to Harper, DOT has approved black gum trees for the medians “at each end of town,” though he cautioned the city had not yet received a permit for the median trees.
