Sewer overflows in Oconee

Heavy rainfall has resulted in three sewer overflows across Oconee County.  Bob Winchester, director of the Joint Regional Sewer Authority, has issued a public notification of the incidents. They occurred Tuesday at the Flat Rock pump station wet well on the Duck Pond Road near Walhalla, at Miller Branch between highway 24 and Hampton Street, Westminster, and at Seneca Creek above the Wells Highway.  In each instance, according to reports filed with DHEC, unknown volumes of wastewater were released and entered streams or bodies of water.  In the instance of wastewater entering the Duck Pond reservoir, the city of Walhalla was notified, although the city is not now drawing water from the reservoir. Clean up workers raked up debris and applied lime to the area.  Those wishing more information, should contact Winchester at 864/972-3900.
