Shooting outside the Westminster police station

A man has been found shot outside the police station in Westminster. According to the Oconee Sheriff’s Office, the shooting appears to have been self-inflicted and the victim had no prior dealing with the police there. After a caller reported hearing a shot, a gun and a note were found at the scene—described as the back steps of the police station, off E. Windsor Street. According to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office, there is no danger to the public or any reason for public action. Sheriff Mike Crenshaw told 96.3/WGOG NEWS his office was requested by Dean Awalt, the Westminster police chief, to handle the investigation.
