Sign could read: “There have been 15 drownings here!”

If you believe two Lake Keowee drownings last summer were too many, you undoubtedly believe that 80 in the lake’s history are way too many.  Lake Keowee drownings are a big concern for FOLKS—Friends of Lake Keowee.  Its president, Jack Lewis, says one solution may be for Oconee County to acquire control of Fall Creek Landing, where 15 have died, and turn that Duke Energy area into the county’s fourth county park.  Lewis says Fall Creek could benefit from regular patrols by park rangers.  Oconee County is exploring acquiring Fall Creek Landing and developing it as the county’s fourth park.  Short of that, Lewis touts the idea of a warning sign, alerting Fall Creek users that there have been 15 deaths in that part of Lake Keowee.
