“SLED” investigates officer-involved shooting

The state police continue to investigate last Sunday’s wounding of a man who was in a confrontation with a Pickens County deputy sheriff responding to a burglary call.  The state Law Enforcement Division conducts independent officer-involved shooting investigations at the request of the agency involved.  The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call from a female homeowner at 447 Latham Road in Easley at approximately 3:20 pm stating that there was a suspicious person who had forced entry into her home.  A deputy encountered a male later identified as Franklin Reed Styles inside the home and, according to preliminary information, the deputy fired multiple rounds with at least one hitting the suspect.  Styles was taken to a hospital.  Information gathered by the “SLED” investigation goes into a case file report to be sent to prosecutors in the Greenville-Pickens Solicitor’s Office.
