Sloan says every day is a good day to “Visit Oconee”

Ken Sloan is not at all surprised that those who planned Oconee’s Sesquicentennial came up with 150 things to do. Because, as Sloan says, every day is a good day to see the county that borders two states and is nearly surrounded by water on all sides. You have to excuse Sloan’s unrestrained enthusiasm. It’s his job to promote Oconee to visitors. And the mechanism to do that is undergoing change. No longer called Mountain Lakes and Convention Visitors Bureau, the office that Sloan directs is now “Visit Oconee.” The change, in part, reflects the county project “Destination Oconee.” According to Sloan, the local mindset has changed and is changing when it comes to showing off the county to outsiders.
