South Carolina’s 10-year bridge repair plan

Secretary of Transportation Christy Hall has announced that South Carolina DOT has met its targets in year 1 of a 10-year plan to repair load-restricted or structurally deficient bridges. New and sustainable revenue provided by the Roads Bill of 2017 makes possible the repair work. DOT is responsible for more than 8,400 bridges across South Carolina. The vast majority, 92% are considered in good, structural health. The 10-year plan targets the remaining 8% that have weight limits or otherwise classified as structurally deficient. In the first year, 51 bridge repair projects got underway. Another 41 are scheduled to start in the second year. According to a DOT list for future repairs, ten Oconee County bridges are listed. They include locations on Barrett Way, Bountyland Road, Chattooga Ridge Road, E. Stamp Creek Road, New Madison Road, Oconee Creek Road, Radisson Road, Rodgers Road, and Smith Dairy Road.
