Special Veterans Designation Available

The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced Friday, September 7 the availability of a “VETERAN” designation on driver licenses, identification cards and beginner permits for individuals who have honorably served in the United States Armed Forces. Executive Director Kevin Shwedo says, “Our veterans have done their part serving our country and it’s only right that we should honor them. I’m proud that we can offer this service and I hope they will take advantage of it.” The “VETERAN” designation applies only to individuals who served honorably as members of the United States Armed Forces. To apply, veterans must present their Form DD214, which indicates an honorable discharge. No other proof of service will be accepted. Military dependents, spouses or civilian employees on military bases are not eligible. The addition of the Veteran designation costs only $1.00 and if a customer wants to add the designation without changing or renewing the license, the cost is $1.00. Renewal or changing the license is $1.00 plus the normal license or renewal fee.
