Standing in the way of opening the new jail

A test of the fire alarm was successful.  Now the one problem in the way of finally opening Oconee’s new jail appears to be an adjustment to the ventilation system.  Sheriff Mike Crenshaw says the adjustment is needed to allow a quicker exodus of smoke.  But, once the adjustment is made and the state Department of Corrections approves, the anticipated opening for the new jail will be “sometime early November.”  That’s when the inmate population at the current jail transitions to the new one—a short distance away.
