Storm Andrea prompts readiness

The first named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season has formed and could potentially affect South Carolina. The National Weather Service and the National Hurricane Center expect Tropical Storm Andrea to produce heavy rain and wind in many parts of the state beginning tonight and lasting through tomorrow morning. The SC Emergency Management Division, county emergency managers and state agencies are watching the latest forecasts and planning as necessary. EMD urges everyone to listen to NOAA Weather Radio, local media, review emergency plans and use caution as conditions warrant. And be aware that tropical storms can form tornadoes.
