Students who are no shows to get excused absences

Today will be remembered as the day that’s devoted to the approaching total eclipse of the sun.  All except essential public services are shutting down at noon today.  Classes are being held in the Oconee public schools where teachers are using the rare event as an education exercise.  But those students who choose to stay away today will be marked as excused absences.  The start of Oconee General Sessions Court has been delayed until tomorrow.  The county is seeing its share of visitors for what’s promised to be prime eclipse viewing.  Getting here, however, for at least one visitor was something short of pleasant.  A Maryland woman told us the interstates southbound were congested as she’s ever experienced–especially with intersection construction, such as that which is taking place in the Charlotte, North Carolina area.
