·        A total of 52 volunteers assisted the citizens of Oconee County who stopped by.

·        A total of 12,493 lbs. of Household Hazardous Waste was collected.

·        Narcotics Agents from the Sheriff’s Office collected 267 pounds of prescription medication in pill and liquid form, vitamins, supplements and over the counter medication.

“We are grateful to the citizens of Oconee County who stopped by to drop off their items and to all the volunteers who took time on a beautiful Saturday to help those in our community and county,” says Bob Winchester, Chairman of the Local Emergency Planning Committee.  “As you can see by the stats, the event was a tremendous success and the Local Emergency Planning Committee is committed not only in helping Oconee County prepare for disasters which may occur but also to the safety of our citizens and to protecting the environment.  These Hazardous Household Waste Collection Days help us to accomplish all of that.”  The Local Emergency Planning Committee is a partnership of business, governmental, and public safety agencies that meet once every quarter and hosts events, such as the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day. It meets to help better plan for events and contingencies, such as a chemical emergency response and preparedness plan, and to build better understanding between all the agencies involved and to understand what resources are available.
