The toll, so far, from the deluge

It seems like the deluge is adding one inch of rain every hour.  Just between 7 and 11 this morning. the Walhalla weather watcher Barbara Wilson added 2.80″ to her running.  She had reported nearly three inches at the 7 o’clock hour.  Some of the worst damage is in Westminster, where the parking lot of Yousef’s Restaurant resembled a swimming pool; the result, what Yousef Mefleh is calling a sinkhole.  The restaurant is still open.  By late this morning, at least three county roads were closed.  Partially flooded was the low-lying Walhalla traffic light intersection of S. College and S. Broad streets.  Scott Krein of Oconee Emergency Services said the county had already assisted with moving a few residents out of flood-threatened housing to safer accommodations.
