Thirsty burglar strikes convenience store

A burglar used a rock to break the front glass entrance to a Walhalla convenience store and stole a suitcase of beer. The crime occurred early Saturday morning at the Bountyland Quik Stop on Main Street. The police say they cleared the investigation later in the day by arresting a 33-year old Seneca man, Eric MacKenzie Richardson, on the charges of burglary second degree and petty larceny. Paul Harris, interim police chief, said a surveillance video of the crime scene showed the intruder wore the uniform of a fast food restaurant. One of the investigating policemen said he recognized the man in the video. Richardson was arrested at the fast food restaurant, described in the police report as his now former place of employment.
