Tournament baseball action gets underway this week

Pairings and game times have been set for the 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Championship, which will be held from Wednesday, May 22 through Sunday, May 26 at Durham (N.C.) Bulls Athletic Park. UNC (47-8, 21-7 ACC) earned the No. 1 overall seed and will head up Pool A. The Tar Heels will be joined by fourth-seeded NC State (42-13, 19-10), fifth-seeded Clemson (39-17, 18-12) and eighth-seeded Miami (35-21, 14-16).North Carolina and Clemson square off in the 7 p.m. game on Wednesday.

The SEC baseball tournament bracket is now set and USC fans will have a late night Wednesday. And if the Gamecocks win, there will be another late night Thursday. The Gamecocks, as the #4 seed, will play in the final game Wednesday against the winner of the Mississippi State-Missouri game on Tuesday. Should they win, the Gamecocks will play in the final game on Thursday. A loss on Wednesday will put the Gamecocks into the second game of the day on Thursday in the elimination bracket.

The Furman Paladins will take on the Elon Phoenix in Southern Conference Baseball Tournament first round action on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. at Fluor Field, the league has announced. The Paladins (31-23, 14-16 SoCon) carry the No. 6 seed into the tournament while the Phoenix (27-27, 18-11 SoCon) sport the tournament’s No. 3 seed.

Coastal Carolina won the Big South’s South Division Championship to earn the No. 2 seed in the Big South Championship behind first place Campbell. The Chanticleers will take on Longwood Tuesday morning at 9:30 AM in the tournaments opening round.
