Train traffic halted

Norfolk Southern train traffic has been halted as the result of a mishap late this morning between Seneca and Clemson.  A southbound freight train failed to climb the grade into Seneca and stalled between the city and Clemson.  The train sits blocking the only motorized access to the student apartment complex Hart’s Cove, and Oconee Emergency Services has responded with a fire engine and medical response cart into the complex.  The railroad expects the train will sit for several hours. Meantime, the volunteer Corinth-Shiloh Fire Department is working to establish an access path using a dirt road that connects with secondary 1–the old Clemson-Seneca Highway.
