United Way campaign lifts off

Former Congressman Gresham Barrett asked the audience for the start of the new Oconee United Way campaign to grasp that the key to solve needs and problems can be as small as helping one person at a time. Barrett conceded that the problems and needs faced Oconeeans and their Upstate neighbors are great, but not insolvable. Barrett got emotional when he told of his recent experience picking up a man who needed a ride after that man had just lost his job at a Seneca area manufacturing plant. Barrett said he was moved by an inner voice in his head to help and wound up giving the man $60 he had with him.
