Wait game at the OC Auditor’s Office

Oconee Auditor Ken Nix hopes he’ll be able the night of September 3 to recommend the county’s tax levy for 2013. But it’s all going to depend on how soon the state Department of Revenue delivers its assessment of what Duke Energy will owe to cover its Oconee County holdings for another taxable year. Nix today quoted a state Department of Revenue representative as saying he’s hopeful of announcing the assessment by early next week. Besides Duke, Oconee’s highest taxpayer, the assessment will include the taxable holdings in Oconee of Norfolk Southern Railroad, Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative and other companies in the utilities category.
