Walhalla can learn from Hendersonville, Moss says

Today’s an important day for Streetscape. Walhalla is scheduled to learn just how much interest there is from potential contractors willing to re-work Main Street, across the downtown’s core business district. Proposals from design-build firms are due at City Hall no later than 2:30 this afternoon. A recent visit to Hendersonville, North Carolina has Walhalla real estate businessman Corky Moss thinking about the idea of narrowing Walhalla’s wide sidewalks downtown. It would free space for a Streetscape median. But Moss says Hendersonville, a magnet town for visitors, counts on its wide sidewalks to help its restaurants. He says Hendersonville restaurateurs use their wide sidewalks for tablecloth-covered tables under umbrellas—a sight that invites motorists to stop. Moss says he has urged Walhalla Mayor Danny Edwards to look at Hendersonville so he can see for himself.
