Walhalla fire leads to the arrest of Georgia woman

A 31-year old Toccoa, Georgia woman has been arrested in Oconee County and charged with third degree arson at a home in Walhalla. The Oconee Sheriff’s Office seeks a second person related to the crime. The Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest by the Walhalla police of April Dawn Lakey originally on the charge of forgery and later arson. Investigators believe a June 20 fire on Hope Drive may have been set from within the house. The Sheriff’s Office identified a second person, Christopher Edward Burrell of Dodge City Drive, Walhalla as the man they believe burglarized the premises and stole tools. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the 21-year old Burrell faces charges of burglary, larceny and arson third degree.
