Walhalla picks Streetscape contractors

Walhalla last night gave two contractors the go ahead to undertake the city’s Streetscape project. After an executive session, Mayor Pro-tem Tjay Bagwell announced the job goes to Seamon Whiteside, an engineering/design company in Greenville, and to Town and Country, a Greenwood contractor. The two companies are to work in tandem on the remake of a core section of downtown Walhalla at a price still to be determined, according to Bagwell. Bagwell says Streetscape will feature a Main Street median with vegetation. But exactly what else is done in the four-block area from Ann to Tugaloo streets is to be influenced with feedback gained from affected merchants, and Bagwell says there are to be more meetings with merchants as the project proceeds. The first part of the work, he said, will be a traffic study.
