Walking the rights-of-way can be hazardous

In the triangle of Oconee’s three largest municipalities, one Oconee County councilman is seeing increasing numbers of people walking along the rights-of-way.  And District Three’s Paul Cain is concerned for their safety.  In a committee meeting this morning, Cain spoke highly of the project to extend the Palmetto Trail from the Oconee Station to Walhalla.  And he wondered whether there could be some kind of trail connecting Seneca, Walhalla, and Westminster.  The councilman expressed concern for the safety of walkers, especially those who trek 28, 123, and 183 in sections where the speed limit is 55 miles an hour.  Cain spoke at a meeting of the county Capital Project Advisory Committee which weighs the value of projects to recommend for approval.
