West-Oak falls to Pendleton Friday night; Walhalla wins on road

The West-Oak Warrior football team fell to 0-3 on the young season following a 60-0 loss to the surging Pendleton Bulldog team Friday night.  Pendleton scored early and often, getting on the board on each of its seven first half possessions.  The Bulldog defense played equally as well in the first two quarters, forcing 3-and-out on West-Oak’s defense on all but one Warrior possession.  The Bulldog’s slowed things down a bit in the second half, but still managed a safety and two touchdowns to get the win, while the Warrior offense continued to sputter.  Pendleton quarterback Colin Brady played only in the early stages of the game, finishing 7-of-9 for 110 yards and two touchdowns, one each to Joseph Burke and Alex Haynes.  Pendleton’s rushing core was led by Christian Gossett, who carried 67 yards for two scores.  He was aided by Cam Blackburn, returning from injury, who touched the ball only twice for 48 yards and a score.  Jalen Dixon carried five times for 53 yards, Darius Barksdale had 92 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown, and Dakota Terry, playing only in the second half, finished with 82 yards and a score.  Jaired Humphries added a six-yard touchdown run on his only carry.  Pendleton returns home to Cunningham Stadium, where next week they’ll face Belton-Honea Path in our Broadcast Game of the Week.  The Bears were winners over Westside Friday, 35-0.  Meanwhile, West-Oak has the week off before beginning Western AAA play at Daniel on September 14.

Elsewhere, the Jeremy Grogan era at Walhalla begins at 2-0 as the Razorbacks defeat Landrum 28-27.
