Westminster man rode bike across the U-S

A Westminster man went looking for America and found it—-on an across-the-country bicycle ride which he recently completed.  Dan Schmiedt posted pictures and a journal of a trip that crossed the U-S from the Atlantic to the Pacific.  All of that pedaling allowed him to accomplish a goal of losing weight.  Perhaps, more important it let him focus on sceneries and experiences you don’t get driving or flying.  “I have a renewed faith in humanity in general and in the United States in particular,” Schmiedt said of his adventure.  He benefited from good fortune by joining with a few other riders and encountering no major problems other than blowing a few tires westward from Kansas.  In all, 5,508 miles in 120 days from March to June, from Clemson to Charleston, up the Atlantic Coast, and then west to Oregon.
