Westminster to cancel new software deal

Westminster expects to save $100 thousand dollars by canceling a new software deal, but one council member is not happy.  After hearing that financial losses are projected for both general and utility accounts for the year ended June 30, the city council voted 4 to 2 last night to pull out of its contract for Harris Smart Fusion software update and rely instead on its current software provider at a lower charge.  City administrator Chris Carter said there is a clause in the Harris arrangement that will allow the city to cancel the contract.  Councilwoman Susan Ramey asked for additional time for more study to compare the advantages and the disadvantages, but a majority of her colleagues weren’t in the mood to spend $100 thousand after hearing Carter give a year-end financial report.
