Whitmire to defer to local school honchos

On the question of whether to forgive school days lost to bad weather, a state lawmaker says he’s going to defer to Oconee County school authorities. However, Bill Whitmire of Walhalla, as the House District One representative, voted yea when it came to a resolution that would allow public schools to waive bringing students back for make-ups. Dr. Mike Lucas, Oconee superintendent, says his district has lost a total of six days this year to inclement weather—including four straight days last week.
