WWII veteran census

The number of World War II veterans remaining in Oconee County continues to elude the staff at the county veterans affairs office. But Jerry Dyar, the director, and his staff are determined to find the answer. The office is asking the public’s help to determine just how many remain in the county from what’s been called the Greatest Generation. “We are hoping to have a very special surprise real soon for as many of our great World War II veterans as we can possibly muster,” Dyar said. If you know of any veteran on active military duty between 1941 and 1946, you are asked to contact the veterans affairs office in Walhalla.
