Zero Tolerance for Litter

The Oconee County Sheriff’s office has announced participation in the “Zero Tolerance for Litter” campaign during the month of April. The Sheriff’s department public information office, Jimmy Watt, recently participated in the “Zero Tolerance for Litter” information and communication workshop in Columbia.  Watt says the Oconee Sheriff’s office will be part of the campaign’s news conference on April 16^th on the north steps of the state house in Columbia.  The “Zero Tolerance for Litter” campaign is an annual campaign and is a  partnership between law enforcement, Palmetto Pride, and the South Carolina Litter Control Association to bring awareness to the problem of litter in the state of South Carolina with the hopes of making the Palmetto State “the most litter-free and visitor friendly state in the nation.”  As part of this campaign, the Sheriff’s Office, as well as other agencies who are participating, will be eligible to win the “Zero Tolerance Achievement Award.”  The award recognizes those departments that make the greatest impact in their communities during the litter campaign in April and also assists those agencies with the purchase of equipment to help in their efforts to fight the problem of litter, up to a $600 value.  The award is based on their efforts during the “Zero Tolerance for Litter” campaign, which includes awareness, education, pickup and enforcement activities.
